How to become a civil engineer
Civil engineering education begins long before college, with the classes that the potential civil engineer takes in high school. Yet, it may start even earlier that, with the structures which the future civil engineer, makes out of Lego blocks; seeing how high a tower they can build and how long a bridge they can create. While many children like building with blocks, there’s something different about how the child who is destined to be a civil engineer builds.

Becoming a civil engineer
Civil engineering students, like all other types of engineering students, study math and science extensively. The vast majority of what civil engineers do is a combination of materials science and physics. There are a number of technical specialties within the realm of civil engineering, these include:

Environmental engineering – Designing systems for the treatment of chemical, biological and thermal wastes.

Water resource engineering- concerned with the collection and management of water. Some of the earliest known civil engineers were the Roman engineers who created the aqueducts.
Earthquake engineering—a specialty dealing with creating buildings and other structures which can withstand the stresses of earthquakes without dealing.
Managing the coastal, areas of our country, including marshlands. Coastal engineers create defenses against flooding and erosion.
Engineering knowledge has increased through the years to where each of these specialties needs its own training. Although all of these are considered part of civil engineering, talented individuals who want to specialties is its own vast area of knowledge, requiring dedicated, talented individuals who want to learn and grow.
Being a civil engineering is satisfying, yet challenging work. It requires mixing creativity and science; something that not everyone can do. Yet, for those who can, it provides incredible satisfaction, as they see the results of their labors.
CE Exams and Licenses:-
While getting a good college education is essential to becoming a successful civil engineer, that isn’t all that an aspiring civil engineer needs to do. If one desires to work as a civil engineer, they must also take the necessary tests to become licensed as a civil engineer.
These license tests are administered at the state level. So, while the tests themselves are pretty much the same across the country, you might find a bit of variation in the requirements before one can take the exam in your state. What we’re going to talk about here is what most states require. However, before making plans to take any of these examinations, it is advisable to verify the exact requirements for your particular state.
These are essentially two different levels of licensing or certification for civil engineers, the fundamentals of engineering examination (FE) and the principles and practices in Engineering (PE).
Fundamentals of engineering Examination (FE).
The fundamental of the Engineering Examination is typically taken during the engineering student’s final semester of their undergraduate engineering degree. To accommodate the needs of the students, this exam is offered twice a year, in April and October.
The test itself is an eight hour, 180 question marathon. The questions themselves are all multiple choice, many of which require calculations in order to answer. The morning session consists of 120 questions on a variety of general engineering subjects, including:
