Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is an organisation under Government of India. It recruits the staff for various posts in various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India and in it’s Subordinate offices. This Commission is an attached office of the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) which consists of Chairman, two Members and a Secretary-cum-Controller of Examinations. His post is equivalent to the level of Additional Secretary to the Government of India. Head quarters of Staff Selection Commission has it’s head quarters located at New Delhi. At present it has seven regional offices at Allahabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Guwahati, Chennai, Bangalore. It also has two sub regional offices at Raipur and Chandigarh. Each regional office is headed by a Regional Director and each Sub-Regional office is headed by a Deputy Director. Staff Selection Commission conducts a lot of exams every year. Age Limit: Candidates who have applied for the exam must possess a minimum age of 18 years and should not cross an age of 27 years as on 1st August 2016. Candidates not born before 02-08-1989 and not later 01-08-1998.
- 5 years for SC/ST
- 3 years for OBC
- 10 years for PH
- 13 years for PH+OBC
- 15 years for PH+SC/ST

Educational Qualification: Candidates who are going to apply for the exam must have passed 12th Standard (Matriculation with HSC) or equivalent from a recognized Board or University.
Selection Process: Selection process consists of two stages. They are

- Skill Test
SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern 2016: Objective type paper will be conducted on morning between 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon or 02:00 PM to 04:00PM
There will be three parts in the exam which includes
- General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 questions). Each question carries a single mark.
- General Awareness (50 questions). Each question carries a single mark.
- English Language & Comprehension (100 questions). Each question carries a single mark.
SSC Stenographer Grade C & D Exam Syllabus 2016
General Intelligence & Reasoning: It would include questions from both verbal and non-verbal type. The test will include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, problem solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discriminating observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series etc. This test will also include the questions which test the candidate’s abilities to deal with abstract ideas, symbols and their relationship, arithmetical computation and other analytical functions.
General Awareness: This test will include the questions relating to India and its neighbouring Countries especially pertaining to sports, History, culture, Geography, Economic scene, General polity including Indian Constitution, and Scientific Research etc. The questions will be such that they do not require any discipline. For VH candidates of 40% and above visual Disability / Cerebral Palsy affected candidates and opting for scribe there will be no component of Maps / Graphs / Diagrams / Statistical Data in the General Intelligence & Reasoning / General Awareness paper.
English Language & Comprehension: In addition to the testing of candidate’s understanding of English Language, its vocabulary, Grammar, Sentence Structure, Synonyms, antonyms, and its correct usage etc. His or her writing ability will be tested.
