How to Prepare for Civil Service Mains Examination?
From 2013 there are major changes happening in the Civil Service Mains Examination. While comparing with the papers and marks distribution each paper having equal weightage. For first three papers nearly 20-25 questions are given. Every question carries 10-12.5 marks.
There are two qualifying papers available. One is modern Indian Language and another one is English. As per UPSC instructions every candidate has to get 25% marks in both the papers. In 2013 they just asked only one essay, but in 2014 they are given 2 essays. Every essay must write in 1000 to 1200 words. Eight topics are divided into two sets. - Read and Understand:
First, understand the given paragraph and try to study that several times till you understand, what the author of that paragraph is going to express.
- Write it in Points:
Every paragraph has information. We must know what it is and explain that information in your words. To present your information in a neat manner must write in points wise. Writing in points, you will get clarity about your topic.
- Write main topics in a single place:
Writing a good essay on given topics means expressing more than the author. It means expressing author’s feelings in your words. To present your essay in a beautiful way you must know the origin of the given topic and implement the main topics to implement this concentrate on every point and then write it down in your own words. So, know you understood how present without losing the exact meaning of the given paragraph.
- Proper Heading:
After knowing the complete meaning of your essay must prepare a heading for that and compare the same with the main topics and points which is noted by you.
- First prepare a rough note:
After knowing all main topics of passage write down a rough note. While writing a rough note should not delete any main concept and should not add any other concept on your own. After collecting all the notes now, prepare an essay with your own in less words.
- Compare and Verify:
Writing once you may not get the beauty of the essay. So, must compare the same with exact paragraph and verify the given concept matches exactly or not. In this you can find out how many words you are used and you can delete or add the unnecessary and unmatched words.
- Correction and rewrite:
First check the written essay and rewrite the same to take final stage. Whatever changes you are expected clear the same. Now check your final essay whether it is matching exactly and clearly what the author is going to say in the given paragraph.
