UPSC National Defence Academy (NDA) Examination details
The Union Public Service Commission is conducting National Defence Academy (NDA) examination two times every year. National Defence Academy is the first services training academy in the world. This is only one program where Army, Navy and Air Force candidates are trained together before they going to their training in respective service academies. The NDA is the Joint Academy Services of the Armed Forces. Those who are qualified written test of NDA which is conducted by UPSC will be called for general interview covering topics psychological testing, general aptitude, team skills as well as physical and social skills. Every year nearly 2.5lakhs candidates are writing the National Defence Academy Examination.
Under Graduate Program in National Defence Academy (NDA):
For Successful candidates National Defence Academy offers a full time residential undergraduate program for 3 years. After completion of successful program cadets are awarded with a bachelors degree.
There are two streams providing by NDA for bachelor degree. One is Science stream it offers studies in Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science. The arts stream offers studies in History, Economics, Political Science, Geography and Languages.
National Defence Academy Academic Studies are split into three categories.
1. Compulsory Course: Cadets study English, Foreign Languages (Arabic, Chinese, French or Russian), History, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Political Science, Mathematics, Economics and Geography
2. Foundation Course: It is mandatory in fundamental course to study General Studies and Military. Subjects such as Military History, Military Geography, Weapons systems, etc. are covered in Military Studies. Subjects such as Geopolitics, Human Rights, General studies covers the Laws of Armed Conflict and Environmental Sciences.
3. Optional Course: The optional course focuses on subjects which is selected by the cadet.
Cadets spend the first four semesters on the Compulsory Course and the Foundation Course. Cadet has to take the Optional Course in the fifth and sixth semesters. Cadet may transfer to other Service academies for the optional courses.
Age Limit for National Defence Academy (NDA):
From 16 years 6 months to 19 years old candidates are eligible for this exam.
Educational Qualification National Defence Academy (NDA):
For Army Wing: 12th Class pass or Intermediate or CBSE of the 10+2 pattern of school Education, or equivalent.
For Air Force and Naval Wings: 12th Class pass or CBSE or Intermediate of the 10+2 pattern of school Education with Physics and Mathematics, or equivalent
Written Examination Pattern:
|1. Mathematics||300 Marks|
|2. General Ability Test||600 Marks|
|Total Written exam marks||900 Marks|
|Marks for SSB Interviews||900 Marks|
Training Program in National Defence Academy (NDA):
After successful personality test joining cadets will be trained in the academy for three years and graduate program BA/B.Sc or BCS (Computer Science) affiliated by Jawaharlal Nehru University. They will train in outdoor skills like sports, Drill and cultural activities. And learning one of the foreign languages is mandatory. The importance of National Defence Academy is building character, mental and physical strength, and leadership qualities of cadets.
